How To Get The New Google Pay App
In this quick tech how-to video, I’m going to show you how to download, or if you’ve used it in the past, update to the latest Google Pay app.
Google just recently relaunched their money app, Google Pay, to include a ton of new features including cashback rewards, group payments, a new explore feature, and a Mint like money management section.
But the big draw right now, is they’ve upped their referral bonus from the previous $5 to $21. Get up to 3 people to sign up through your referral link and when they spend at least $10 through Google Pay, you each get a $21 bonus. Pretty awesome.
To get started, either head to the app store and search Google Pay, or if you already have an account and the app downloaded, open the original app.
You should get a window pop-up showing you that Google Pay has a new app and to follow through to the store to download it and get started. If not, you'll see one of the boards here at the top that says, try the new Google Pay app.
Go ahead and select that and it'll take you to the app store where you can now download and install the brand-new Google Pay app.
Get the new app by confirming and installing it through the app store. And then once it's done downloading, select open, allow Google play to send you notifications, and select your Google account that you use from the dropdown.
Select continue and then on the next screen, add your phone number to link to your account.
This will allow people to look you up and send and pay through your phone number, making it a lot easier to manage payments.
Verify through the verification code it's sent to your phone, and then go through the next few pages of privacy settings.
Here you can let friends find you. Earn rewards when you pay with Google Pay. And turn on personalization that's catered to you.
Select okay to let Google pay use face ID to log in, and then select Got It when you're ready to go.
Once you're done, you'll end up at the homepage for the new Google Pay app.
Down at the bottom on the left, you'll see the Explore tab. Here you can scroll through and look at current Google Pay offers that are being provided by different retailers.
We'll go up to the top here, the REI 20% cashback and select that. Here you see that currently at REI, you can get 20% cashback up to $50 when you enroll an eligible card and make a purchase in-store.
Back to the homepage, select the Pay option in the center of the bottom of the screen.
This is where you can find people to pay and pay stores that currently accept Google Pay.
Finally, at the bottom on the right, is the Insights tab.
Once linked to your bank account, this will keep track of your spending and give you insights on how you manage your money.
Select the Google Pay wallet icon at the top right, where you can see your Google Pay balance, manage cashback from rewards, and money received from friends.
Head back to the homepage again and select your profile icon in the top right. This is where you can find your settings, but more importantly, right now, this is where you can find your referral link, under the Invite Friends, Get Rewards.
Select share and choose which method you'd like to share your referral link through. For instance, if you want to text it to somebody select Message and it'll open up your text message app with a referral description and a link for them to sign up through. Enter in the person that you'd like to send it to and click send.
And that's an overview of how to get and use the new Google Pay app from Google.
