IBM has a new line of computer mainframes for sale, and they are some of the most advanced ever created. Intended to manage transactions for retailers and banks, these mainframes contain a microprocessor that is the fastest chip in the world.
The new systems are capable of registering user transaction while also keeping track of specific customer habits. This data will allow retailers to adjust sales practices or give out deals specific to certain consumers.
According to Bloomberg, IBM has been focusing on its software and services business recently, while putting less effort into its hardware. Without hardware, however, there is less demand for IBM's software and services. The release of these mainframes is seen as a move to insure business for IBM's non-hardware divisions.
