If before there was a joke exercise with your own weight, now let's talk about an exercise that I see all the time in gyms and that is the Smith squat. It's different from regular squats because the machine restricts your movement, causing unnatural strain on your lower back and knees which can lead to serious injury over time. In addition, squatting in the Smith machine produces improper squatting technique and transition from this machine to free-weight squats is like going from a chauffeur-driven limo to a tricycle. Because It also doesn’t help strengthen the smaller muscles needed for balance, making your progress in regular squats minimal when you switch over.
