The girl with a pearl earring and Alzheimer's disease,
have in common that they are both on a wander through time.
while my mother's thoughts have faded, the memory of the girl with the pearl earring remains in her mind. Now that she seems to forget moments and people, she still knew Johannes Vermeer and knows exactly in which museum this girl lives.
These girls have met many times, her love for art that she passed on to me has not disappeared yet.
When I told her about the idea of making this photo for the Mauritshuis, she was enthusiastic and emotional. She enjoyed every moment and got that youthful sparkle in her eyes. She became a girl again........with pearl of course.
