Tunisia: The electoral commission approved on Monday the candidacies of President Kais Saied and two others, Zouhair Magzhaoui and Ayachi Zammel, for next month's presidential election. Police arrested Zammel Monday on suspicion of falsifying popular endorsements, according to his staff.


China: African leaders have been arriving in Beijing for the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation which will be held in the Chinese capital from September 4 to 6.


Africa / Indonesia: Indonesia plans to sign business deals worth $3.5 billion with African countries as it hosts the second Indonesia-Africa Forum in the resort island of Bali, the Southeast Asian country's President Joko Widodo said during his opening speech for the forum Monday.


Senegal: Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of continuing the war in Gaza for his own political survival Sunday. Sonko was speaking at a rally in support of the Palestinian cause at Dakar's Grand Mosque.


Nigeria: A former Miss South Africa contestant, 23-year-old Chidimma Adetshina, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria over the weekend. Born to a Nigerian father Adetshina withdrew from the competition in South Africa after a backlash that exposed anti-foreigner sentiment in the country.
