World of Warships is a naval warfare-themed MMO arcade game produced by Cyprus-based developer and publisher Wargaming Group Ltd.
WoWS gameplay is team-based; players are in command of historical (from WWI to the end of the 1950s) warships picked from four available classes (destroyer, cruiser, battleship and aircraft carriers) and navies (Kriegsmarine, Imperial Japan Navy, Royal Navy, US Navy, Soviet Navy, Polish Navy, Republic of China Navy, People's Liberation Army Navy, French Navy and Royal Australian Navy), and are pitted in two-team battles for domination of one or more spots on a given map. Each match ends with either the 100% capture by one team of all "cap" points, or the complete annihilation of the opposite team. A timer also forces the players to reach a decisive conclusion to their battle as swiftly as possible.
Players use their experience and financial rewards to unlock increasingly modern and powerful vessels, culminating with the end 1940s-1950s' Tier X (many of which are actually "paper designs", having never been built due to the end of the Second World War and/or the ineluctable obsolescence of the traditional battleship, due to the advent of missile-launching boats and the supremacy of carrier-based aviation).
This Random Battles match here displays my casual gameplay (I only play when I have the time to, and I'm not trying to become sort of stat-obsessed pro gamer) with the Tier IX US premium battleship USS Missouri*. Immortalized by its role in the official surrender of Japan in WWII, the Mighty Mo is a legendary ship in World of Warships, being the first and only (until 2018, where the HIJMS Musashi was introduced) Tier IX *premium vessel. The Missouri is particularly renowned for its credit-making ability, which is due to its unequaled, in-built credit multiplier. This battleship can only be unlocked through Free Experience Points (a whopping 750,000 FXP price tag), which is gained by playing the game in the long run or converting ~80 Euros worth of doubloons to FXP.
In early 2018, it was announced that the Missouri would be replaced by the new HIJMS Musashi, a downtiered Yamato, triggering a playerbase race to collect this much-prized ship before it permanently goes away. A much-appreciated benefit of premium vessels is that they can be used to retrain captains of other same-country ships without the re-specialization penalty. In this case, I had reassigned my USS Montana's captain to the Missouri to increase his skill points and get to 19 points. Tier IX-X gameplay, as stated in a previous video, is financially hostile, so it is better to grind the captain at Tier VIII rather than risk income deficits at Tier IX-X where everything can go south in the blink of an eye.
The Missouri shares the perks and downsides of its sistership the Tier IX USS Iowa: it is fast with excellent precision (especially with Artillery Plotting Room Mod.2) and alpha values. However, its long hull increases its rudder shift and turn radius, causing prolonged exposure when changing directions. It is also harder to evade torpedo spreads in an Iowa-class than with, say, the USS Alabama. The Mighty Mo's wonderful AA complement will keep most air wings at bay, but is not impenetrable. The radar is excellent for revealing and tracking destroyers, but it has the nasty habit of beckoning me forward too much and landing me in hot waters. A single advice applies to ALL battleships: do NOT rush forward, stay at bay to avoid HE spam.
My latest Montana video has until now been my favorite recollection of my good WOWS matches, but this one here is seriously poised to dethrone the current title holder and for good reason: with 7 kills and 1.3M credits gross, this is one of my most successful (never mind the fact that it was a defeat!) and lucrative matches ever. Citadels galore, a steady whittling of enemy forces and a thrilling final confrontation - what more could I ask for? Anyway, this footage will show why I'm seriously enamored with this battleship, setting aside its baked-in credit multiplier: it is, when rightly played, a devastating predator. My financial performance was made possible thanks to a Gamescom camouflage paint, by the way…and I also used my first-ever 19-pointed captain to grind elite captain experience with the Mighty Mo. I hope you enjoy the match; I most certainly did.
The footage was recorded with Windows 10's in-built Game DVR, since NVidia ShadowPlay was giving me trouble.
