World of Warships is a naval warfare-themed MMO arcade game produced by Cyprus-based developer and publisher Wargaming Group Ltd.

WoWS gameplay is team-based; players are in command of historical (from WWI to the end of the 1950s) warships picked from four available classes (destroyer, cruiser, battleship and aircraft carriers) and navies (Kriegsmarine, Imperial Japan Navy, Royal Navy, US Navy, Soviet Navy, Polish Navy, Republic of China Navy, People's Liberation Army Navy, French Navy, Regia Marina and Royal Australian Navy), and are pitted in two-team battles for domination of one or more spots on a given map. Each match ends with either the 100% capture by one team of all "cap" points, or the complete annihilation of the opposite team. A timer also forces the players to reach a decisive conclusion to their battle as swiftly as possible.

Players use their experience and financial rewards to unlock increasingly modern and powerful vessels, culminating with the end 1940s-1950s' Tier X (many of which are actually "paper designs", having never been built due to the end of the Second World War and/or the ineluctable obsolescence of the traditional battleship, due to the advent of missile-launching boats and the supremacy of carrier-based aviation).

This Random Battles match here displays my casual gameplay (I only play when I have the time to, and I'm not trying to become sort of stat-obsessed pro gamer) with the Tier VIII Japanese destroyer HIJMS Kagero*. The Kagero is a very entertaining ship, boasting the largest amount of stealth among all high-tier IJN DDs. With the appropriate captain skill and modification upgrade, this warship can reduce its detection radius to a staggering 5.4km, a performance only bested by the technologically similar Asashio (but only in detection by air). This allows the Kagero to sneak in very close to its target and loosen eight fast and hard-hitting torpedoes. If the player has selected the Torpedo Reload Booster consumable instead of the more conservative Smoke Generator, he or she will then be able to drop *another eight fishes in the water barely ten seconds later, creating the infamous "wall-of-skill" that many battleship and cruiser drivers dread.

Players already acquainted with the Shiratsuyu will find themselves at home with the Kagero, though the latter has longer torpedo reload times but better artillery. This ship, however, shall do well not to engage enemy DDs due to their inferiority in both armor and ballistic firepower (Russian and American DDs will make short work of their IJN counterparts). Still, in the right hands and under the right circumstances, the Kagero will wreak horrifying havoc on the enemy.

In this match, I explored the Kagero after sacrificing some Free Experience points to get hull B and the torpedo upgrade. I managed to kill two DDs on my side of the map in the first minutes of the game (the introduction's text contains a mistake, by the way - it doesn't count as a "Double Kill" as the game's list of achievements defines it), kill another BB while harassing a second. My experience with that Alabama reinforced my belief that I should draw closer before dropping torps, seeing that this kiting BB kept evading or preempting my numerous torpedo spreads.

The footage was recorded with Windows 10's in-built Game DVR, since NVidia ShadowPlay was giving me trouble.
