World of Warships is a naval warfare-themed MMO arcade game produced by Cyprus-based developer and publisher Wargaming Group Ltd.

WoWS gameplay is team-based; players are in command of historical (from WWI to the end of the 1950s) warships picked from four available classes (destroyer, cruiser, battleship and aircraft carriers) and navies (Kriegsmarine, Imperial Japan Navy, Royal Navy, US Navy, Soviet Navy, Polish Navy, Republic of China Navy, People's Liberation Army Navy, French Navy, Regia Marina and Royal Australian Navy), and are pitted in two-team battles for domination of one or more spots on a given map. Each match ends with either the 100% capture by one team of all "cap" points, or the complete annihilation of the opposite team. A timer also forces the players to reach a decisive conclusion to their battle as swiftly as possible.

Players use their experience and financial rewards to unlock increasingly modern and powerful vessels, culminating with the end 1940s-1950s' Tier X (many of which are actually "paper designs", having never been built due to the end of the Second World War and/or the ineluctable obsolescence of the traditional battleship, due to the advent of missile-launching boats and the supremacy of carrier-based aviation).

This Random Battles match here displays my casual gameplay (I only play when I have the time to, and I'm not trying to become sort of stat-obsessed pro gamer) with the Tier VII premium US light cruiser *USS Atlanta*. The Atlanta is an infamous fixture of the original WOWS game: many a veteran player has already experienced the withering and seemingly uninterruptible 127mm barrage of an Atlanta, well-hidden and invulnerable behind a tall island that forbids return fire. Endowed with absolutely massive DPM that will not be seen again in the upper US cruiser tiers until the [Tier X] USS Des Moines (and, of course, the upcoming US CL line that will appear with Update 0.7.6), the Atlanta can be a particularly frustrating nuisance for battleships that will have trouble avoiding the cruiser's trademark "rainbow fire". Destroyers will particularly loathe the Atlanta's 14-gun broadsides that can halve their HP pool in one go, and the fact that, to add insult to injury, it also sports a radar that can see them through smoke.

Still, the Atlanta is not all sunshine and roses: it is a glass cannon, horribly fragile and cursed with a gigantic citadel. Its eight turrets can be easily disabled or destroyed and their short main gun range (11.12km stock) means that this small cruiser (which handles like a destroyer) will have to drive up close and personal to actually land a hit on the enemy. The 4-point Advanced Firing Training captain skill is a must, as it will boost the range to 13.3km. Other skills like IFHE and Concealment Expert will improve HE damage and stealth, respectively, and shall go a long ways to improving an Atlanta owner's gameplay. The torpedoes are only a last-resort weapon, being barely able to cover a laughable distance of 4.5km. It is not easy to play an Atlanta - it is a life full of risks where death is sudden and brutal, if not instantaneous (the Atlanta has NO heal consumable!).

When they brought back the Atlanta into the US tech tree, I immediately jumped on the opportunity. I was tired of big, lumbering battleships and wanted a novel experience. I had heard of the Atlanta's fragile nature but still doled out the 9,000 doubloons to get it - and I wasn't disappointed: shooting the Atlanta's guns is a purely cathartic moment. My first matches were very satisfactory - and my third one actually ended with an unexpected Kraken! Unfortunately, I was unable to get more kills: a medical problem with my mother forced me to go AFK and tend to her. My ship was then destroyed by a surviving Lyon. Despite the rather sobering conclusion, I hope you enjoy the footage.

The footage was recorded with Windows 10's in-built Game DVR, since NVidia ShadowPlay was giving me trouble.
