The Playhead is technically known as the Current Time Indicator (CTI). Start by dragging the Playhead to the time of choice. Select the layer(s) to be trimmed. Hold down Alt/Option. Tap the left square bracket key "[" to trim the layer(s) to the start to the Playhead. Tap the right square bracket key "]" to trim the layer(s) to the end to the Playhead.
