The following keyboard shortcuts work regardless of which tool is currently active. The obvious exception is if a cursor is flashing within an active text box.

Windows - Zoom in
Control + Spacebar + Left Mouse Button + Move right with mouse

Windows - Zoom out
Control + Spacebar + Left Mouse Button + Move left with mouse

Mac - Zoom in
Command + Spacebar + Left Mouse Button + Move right with mouse

Mac - Zoom out
Command + Spacebar + Left Mouse Button + Move left with mouse
