Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at installing the etrailer trailer hitch receiver on a 2023 Nissan Murano. Now this is what your hitch is gonna look like when it's installed on your Murano, and the great part about this one is it's a nice matte black powder coat finish, which gives it a little bit stealthier look because this is an exposed cross tube, meaning you are gonna see a good majority of the hitch below your vehicle, but overall it's a nice clean look. This is going to be a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is gonna be fantastic. It's got, it's pretty much the standard size. So when it comes to ball mounts, bike racks, cargo carriers, anything that you may load up, you're gonna have tons of options available. All of your accessories are gonna stay in place with a five eights pin and clip.
Now keep in mind that does not come with the hitch, but a lot of times when you pick up accessories, they'll have those included. Now if you wanna leave the accessory on your vehicle and not have to worry about it disappearing, you can pick up a locking pin and clip here at etrailer, which is really nice. Again, you can just put that in place and have that peace of mind knowing that your accessories are gonna stay on your vehicle. I got a plate style safety chain loop here that allows us to get a standard S hook or even a larger clevis style in place. That way when we're hooking up our trailer, we're gonna get our safety chains all hooked up.
Now speaking of towing and hooking up the trailers, you're gonna wanna adhere to the weight capacities of this hitch, which are fairly decent. You have a gross trailer weight rating of 3,500 pounds and that's gonna be the weight of the trailer plus the accessories loaded onto it. You also have a tongue weight rating of 350 pounds, which is gonna be the downward pressure that's put on the inside of the receiver tube opening, and that's gonna be your suspended accessories. So cargo carriers, bike racks, anything that's hanging off of this. Now, keep in mind if you're planning on towing that trailer, you're gonna wanna check the vehicle's owner's manual and see what the vehicle's capable of towing and then compare that with the numbers on this hitch and then take the lower of those two.
That way you're not overloading the vehicle or the hitch. The receiver does sit fairly recessed in the rear fascia, which is nice. You're not gonna hit your shins on it as you walk by, but it does stick back a decent amount. So from the center of the hitch pin to the furthest point, we're looking right at about five and a half inches. Now that's gonna be important because if you choose folding accessories like your cargo repair bike rack, you're gonna wanna check the manufacturer specs on those to make sure that you can stow that in that vertical position.
Keep in mind, it will probably impede the ability to open up your hatch with those folded up, but not to worry, you can just fold those down and you'll be good to go. Now we'll also check our ground clearance and from the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 13 inches and that's gonna be important for a few things. Your suspended accessories are gonna extend on your vehicle, so as you go up an incline or on rock or rough terrain, those have a potential to hit the ground. So you might wanna look at something with a, maybe a shank that goes up a little bit, but also that's gonna be an important measurement for choosing a ball mount because you can measure the coupler of your trailer, compare it with that 13 inches, and then determine your rise or drop necessary to get a nice level towing set up. As far as installation goes, this one's pretty easy. You have factory weld nuts that are already in the frame of the vehicle, so if your vehicle's fairly new, they should be nice and clean to just kind of raise the hitch up, bolt it in place, torque it down, and then you're good to go. So this can definitely be done in your driveway or garage. You've probably knocked this out in about 15, 20 minutes and I'm gonna walk you through all the steps. So let's take a look at that install. Now the installation of our hitch is super easy. There's gonna be factory weld nuts that are in place that our bolts are just going to feed into. The issue is with exposed weld nuts, sometimes corrosion can build up long-term. So if your vehicle has been through some winters and it's got salt corrosion or just you've done a little bit of off-roading, sometimes that can cause so
