Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this Peterson Piranha LED trailer side-marker or clearance light. Now this light is a pretty simple plug-in installation using the two prongs at the back. The base that it needs to plug into, though, is gonna be the thing that you're looking for. So you maybe already have this on your trailer or you're going to be adding it.
Now, Peterson does have a confirmed fit for theirs, but we're using the base and plug from Optronics. It's gonna work just the same, but it's gonna be this two-pronged system. And if you need it, you can pick this up separately, but once you do have that part installed, it's just going to be a matter of lining up the prongs and pushing the light in (light clicking) and getting the black tabs to click on the outside, where now we've got a working light. It's really nice because that base and plug system allows us to swap these lights really easily. So, if one we inchesre to become damaged, or say get run into and crack, then we can swap it out for a new one without really having to do any new wiring.
And here's what that light looks like when it's on. It's gonna be four white LEDs underneath a red lens, and that lens does a really good job at illuminating all around. So, it's not so much straight out. You can see the light shining underneath on my hand and to the back here. So, it's gonna be really visible from a lot of different angles.
Now, the nice thing about it being LED is that it's much brighter than the lights we upgraded from. And because you don't have any bulbs to worry about, it's gonna last longer and be way more energy efficient, so less power draw on our battery. And the light is also sealed, so if you find yourself around water, it's gonna be just fine. The nice thing is because it's just a simple plug-in installation of those two prongs, there's really not many places where the water can get in. Just watch out for around the base.
If you are installing that as well, they use silicone around that and make sure that no water can get into the trailer, depending on how you're mounting this up and what it's mounting to. But with any trailer lighting, it really comes down to the size of the light and the style, because if you're looking for a direct replacement to something that's already on your trailer, you just wanna make sure you pick up the thing that fits and gives you the simplest install. You can find what you're looking for here at etrailer, if this doesn't quite match up to what's currently on your trailer. But if this is what you're looking for, I think it's gonna be a pretty solid option. And you don't have just this one option, for this style that snaps into the base. There's a ton of different brands out there that carry different styles. Personally, I'm a fan of Optronics and Miro-Flex Thinline Series. It's gonna be the same style that snaps into that face, but it looks a little bit nicer in my opinion, and it's gonna just maybe be a little bit brighter. Generally, though, when it comes to LEDs, it's gonna be pretty same across the board, and I would recommend them every day of the week over something like an incandescent bulb. So whichever way you end up going, I think you're gonna be left with a pretty solid product. But today this is just our look at the Peterson Piranha LED's clearance side-marker light. I'm Aiden, and thanks for watching.
