How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and we're taking a look at the Curt Q25 fifth-wheel hitch. Now, the Q25 is a great hitch that's going to give you reduced vibration and a quieter towing experience due to the way that they use bushings and rubber on the inside of the head itself, the head assembly, to give you that better ride. So let's take a closer look at some of the features on the Q25 to see what makes it so special. A few things that I think are really great about the Q25, one is the fact that it is a dual jaw fifth-wheel hitch. A dual jaw is basically gonna clamp around the kingpin on both sides, giving you a lot less vibration and having that snug connection on the kingpin is gonna give you a better towing experience. Another thing that's really cool about this Q25 is the fact that on the inside there are rubber bushings that are designed to give you a little bit of shock absorption as you're going down the road and that translates into a better experience where you're gonna have less chucking.
Of course, the way that your carrier is loaded makes a lot of difference as far as your experience as well, but every little bit helps as far as getting a smoother ride. Your handle has a color-coded indicator to let you know what state the jaws are in. You definitely wanna be careful with the jaws to make sure when they're open your hands are not anywhere in there 'cause it's spring loaded and it'll definitely break your finger. And underneath you're gonna have two pins here that hold on the top covers. And this is essentially what's holding the head to the body of your fifth wheel.
And then you have your OEM legs that just snap right in and they have a quarter turn on the handle to make it super easy for your install. A lot of my people that go for fifth wheels, they intend on keeping it in the bed a lot and they have a tonneau cover to protect it when they're not towing. As far as clearance for a tonneau cover, in the middle adjustment you have plenty of space. At the highest point on the handle you're right at 19 inches when you're at 22 3/4 from the bottom of the bed to the top of the bed rail, so this guy will work well with most tonneau cover setups. Now the installation, the hardware is heavy, but it is easy to put together, and I'll show you how to get it done.
We're gonna start our installation by getting everything in the bed, and I've already installed one half of the legs for the Ford OEM kit. One thing to keep in mind is this is just a demonstration, so I'm just using a Nylock nut and bolt, but the entire kit requires you to use a flat washer as well as a lock washer. But just so you can get an idea of how it fits and how everything comes together and the fact that it has to go back in a box, I'm just gonna save that effort. So, on the foot here, you actually have threaded holes that are gonna bite down with your 7/8 head bolt. So I'm gonna start this guy out on the inside here, going with the side, the middle adjustment, just gonna feed that through.
And then on the very end, start getting it to bite down on the thread. I'm gonna start the Nylock nut also just to get it on a couple threads. And I'm gonna grab my wrench to hold the nut while I drive in the bolt. (wrench whirring) Now I'm not gonna completely fasten down the bolt, I'm just going to let that hold it in place so I have enough room for flexibility to get the other bolt in. So, process is gonna be very similar. I'm gonna feed it through the body and thread it into the foot. And as you can see with these adjustments, you have the middle height and then it's gonna give us the average, you know, not the highest, not the lowest of how it's gonna sit in the bed, and your fasteners will just go right in that point. So now I'm gonna grab another set of hands and they're gonna help me drop it into position. We're gonna grab our hitch and just carefully position it in front of or near the holes. 'Cause we, from here, we're gonna unlatch the sides of the feet by removing the pin and opening it up. And this is gonna allow us to drop our fifth wheel into our puck system. And now we're just gonna drop it right in and lock our handles down. Now in some cases you may notice that your handle doesn't close all the way, and I'll show you how to make that adjustment so it'll fit in. And you can screw up or down on the castle nut and then reinstall your pin to secure it. So
