Welcome to Dev Odyssey IoT Hardware! In this episode, I review the WIMAXIT Raspberry Pi 7” Touch Screen Display and show you just a few ways that I’ve used it so far, along with some ideas for other ways to use it. This monitor boasts an anti scratch capacitive touch screen with 6H hardness, a native resolution of 1024 x 600 (16:9 aspect ratio, and capable of HD at 1920 by 1080), 178 degree, IPS, 400 nit peak brightness display, with two rear speakers and is USB powered.
For connectivity, it has two HDMI ports, two micro USB ports for power and touch, one additional micro USB port for power only, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a paddle wheel volume and brightness control.
For hardware, it comes with a USB A to Micro USB adapter for Raspberry Pi 4, 3 and 2, a HDMI A to HDMI A adapter for Raspberry Pi 3 and 2, a HDMI A to micro HDMI D adapter for Raspberry Pi 4, a HDMI A cord, and USB A to micro USB cord. It also comes with all the hardware you need to mount your Pi onto the monitor, including four bronze mounts, four mounting screws, four rubber feet, a screwdriver, two stands and two screws for the stands.
My use cases for this monitor are a debug monitor for OpenWrt, a portable desktop monitor for Raspberry Pi 4 running Bullseye, and for a mobile external monitor for my laptop.
There are plenty of other projects you can incorporate this monitor into, including a home automation console, a point of sale terminal, an indoor air quality monitor, and a even a RetroPie gaming monitor.
Overall, with everything this monitor comes with, its plentiful use cases, and price point at roughly 75 dollars, I think this purchase is worth it. This monitor will suit your needs for many projects for years to come. Check out the links below to get one for yourself.
