Morten Ernebjerg - FHIR and Agile Together for COVID-19 Web-Apps | DevDays November 2020 Virtual
When COVID-19 started spreading globally in early 2020, our knowledge of this disease was changing every day. Yet there was an urgent need for applications to help handle the situation and a matching need for swiftly developed FHIR-based specifications to keep them interoperable. I discuss what we learned from using FHIR in this dynamic environment while building multiple COVID-19-focussed web-apps and one associated implementation guide. Focusing primarily on an open-source patient-guidance app, I talk about how we collaboratively developed specifications, and about balancing specification stability against quickly-changing requirements (coming from both medical experts and developers). I also discuss the technical challenges we faced, in particular the handling of resources in multiple languages and versions. Finally, I talk about how we approached establishing a tool-chain to handle these challenges. .
