FHIR has the potential to reduce the overall burden associated with quality measurement, enabling better alignment with EHR data than current electronic clinical quality measure standards while improving alignment between clinical decision support and measurement. As the leading developer of hospital-based eCQMs, The Joint Commission is translating existing measures to FHIR and collaborating with stakeholders to advance the Quality Improvement Core Framework (QI-Core), a data model profiling US Core and base FHIR resources to support quality measurement.
