In public health case reporting, jurisdictions send reports to CDC on notifiable conditions. Currently, messaging mapping guide (MMG) provides HL7 v2 based messaging format for the jurisdictions to send the report. While the guide allows questions and laboratory results transported in structured data, MMGs lacks in fast development of new diseases. It comes to a need for a standard data structure model that can support not only the current notifiable conditions but also future unknown conditions in timely and scalable fashion. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) have worked together on mapping of the current MMG to FHIR so that all questions and laboratory data can be captured and exchanged in the standard data model, FHIR. We have used v2-to-FHIR mapping IG published by HL7 working group for the laboratory data template and eCR FHIR is used for the mapping of MMG data. We have identified gaps between MMG and eCR and v2-to-FHIR IGs, where the mapping is an on-going process. During DevDays, we are sharing our findings and with a demonstration of our converters. .
