In John chapter 14 verse 6, Jesus makes this ridiculous statement. He says, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father God but through me". It sounds pretty narcissistic but let me explain to you something about that verse. There are 2 things that are very important. The first is that Jesus is the Way. The second is there is a Destination, which is the Father. A Way to the Destination! Jesus (Way) helps us get to the Father (Destination)!
You see our sin broke our relationship with God the Father. Then God took initiative. He sent Jesus to die upon a cross and pay the penalty for our sins. The sins that we ought to have paid the penalty for. All He was going to require is that we would put our faith in Him (Jesus). Jesus would be the Way back to the Father. You see religion requires for you to live at a certain standard A certain moral standard and holiness in order to believe that you are right with God But Christianity does not work like that. Christianity says if you put your faith in Jesus who is the "standard" and fulfilled all the law and was perfect and was holy If you put your faith in Him and what He did for you by dying on the cross You will be made right with God. You will have access to God again. You can have a relationship with God again. Jesus did not come to start a religion. He came to be the Way for us to have a relationship with God the Father. Now you might say, "well you know I have this problem with Jesus saying that He is the only way". That is very narcissistic, self-centered and whatever else. But I believe there has to be more options. What about all the other religions? There has to be more ways than Jesus. There has to be more ways to God than Christ alone. Well if that is what you are saying I really want to encourage you to think about what you are really saying. You are really saying, God thank you for sending Jesus to die on a cross, to shed his blood. So I can be forgiven of my sins and to create a Way from me back to the Father, who is completely holy But even though Jesus did that, it is just not enough for me because I need more options. I need there to be more than one way Can you see how silly it sounds, when we realize what he has done for us We are saying that is wonderful good job Jesus except for it is not enough for me. I want more options but that is not possible Because what Jesus did was enough for you and me. The blood that He shed was sufficient for our sins to be forgiven. This is why Jesus encouraged all. He said, "Come unto me all you that are heavy laden and burdened". And He was not talking about a natural burden. He was talking about the burden people were carrying of all the laws and the regulations that they had to live under in order to be right with God, which is impossible by the way. Because no amount of law keeping can bridge the gap between my sin and God's holiness. We are not that good. You and I cannot ever live at a high enough standard to be good enough for God. The Bible says that our best deeds (if we put our faith in them) are like stinking rags in God's face. This is why the gospel of Jesus Christ is called the good news. Why is it good news, because we no longer have to carry that burden. That burden of law keeping that crushed people in order to try and live to a perfect standard In order to being right with God because in your heart you know that is impossible This is the difference between Christianity and all other major world religions Christianity does not require man to live a self-righteous life in order to be right with God We have to put our faith in Christ who was completely righteous. All other world religions require of their followers to live at the highest possible standard Moral lives, law-keepers in order to make themself right with God You see Christianity is the humble route because we don't see ourselves as good enough that is why we know we need Jesus But all other world religions see themselves as having the ability to live up to God's standards out of their own power and their own strength And that is a place of pride. So I really want to encourage you to pick up a Bible and ask God, "God show me why you are good to me?" Because "the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation", that is what the Bible says
And if you can see God's goodness in Jesus Christ, you will never regret putting your faith in Him. Like Billy Graham always used to say, "He has never met a man who regretted giving their lives to Jesus". I want to encourage you to do just the same.
