Why do you need Jesus? Why do I need Jesus? I mean oftentimes when you go to somebody in the world you talk to them about the Lord. They will have very little interest and the reason they had little interest is because they don't think they need Jesus. They don't need the gift of Christ. If you dig a little deeper you'll find out why they don't believe they need Christ. It is because they think that they aren't all that bad. There's enough good within them that one day when they stand before God wouldn't reject them because at least they have been more good than bad. they'll do something like this they will compare themselves with others. The Bible says we become fools when we compare ourselves one with another. They'll do something like this like "Well Hitler.. I mean he's real evil and me in comparison to Hitler Hitler really bad. Me really good in comparison I haven't murdered anybody I haven't killed anybody and because there's so much good in me in comparison to somebody that bad how could God reject all this goodness in me?
We look at ourselves based on how we evaluate our own goodness but today I would like for us to let the Word of God the Bible evaluate us so that we can identify the actual state of man as perceived from the eyes of God. You and I aren't sinners because we sinned No ! We sin because we are a sinner. We have a sinful nature which results in a wake of sinful actions In our lives Genesis 3 verse 6 shows how man fell from grace. As Adam and Eve fell from grace this sinful nature now is perpetuated within humanity and now we were born in sin and because of our nature of sin. we act out in sin so therefore we have a nature of sin. we have actions of sin sinful actions that's why we are condemned for our nature and judged for our actions. we are hopeless and helpless before God because we have this evil nature this fallen nature.
Isaiah chapter 64 verse 6 says "we have all become like one who is unclean and now even our greatest works are like filthy rags in God's face". Jeremiah 17:9 says "That the heart (man's heart) has now become deceitful and desperately wicked". King David says in Psalms 51:5 "that we are born in sin". Ephesians 2 verse 1 says "that we are dead in sin". John 3:19 says "because of man's corrupted heart he naturally loves darkness instead of light". Romans chapter 3 verse 10 and 11 says "no one is righteous. No one understands God. And no one seeks God why because the state of man was so radically corrupted by sin". 1 Corinthians 2:14 says that "natural man in his natural state was so blinded by sin that even the goodness of God became foolishness to them". Romans chapter 8: 7 says that "the natural man's state of mind has become an enemy of God".
The Apostle Paul had such a great understanding of how radically corrupt a man was in his fallen state. He says in Romans chapter 3 verse 10 on wards "There is no one righteous not even one. There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks God. All have turned away. They have together become worthless. Fallen man has altogether become worthless. There is no one who does good. Not even one". Even in Romans chapter 7 when he says "the things I want to do I don't do and the things I don't want to do, I keep doing them". And then he shouts and says "Oh ! what a wretched man I am. Who will save me from this body of sin?". He had such a great understanding of how radically corrupted the sinful nature was. Why? Because he compared himself to a perfectly holy God. While we at times what we do is we compare ourselves one to another. We'll look at Hitler and we see how good we are. We see our own value and our own goodness. And we think well why would God reject us if we are so good in comparison to Hitler.
God wants us to first and foremost understand how radically deprived and corrupted we are as fallen man. when we see that that will be the first day in our lives when we become humble before a holy God. The Bible says "For God gives grace to the humble. For by grace you have been saved through faith not of yourselves as any man should boast". I don't believe anybody can really come to God for salvation if they come to him in search of a better life.
I don't believe anybody who has fallen on hard times that runs to God because they've fallen on hard times really gets saved because God did not send Jesus to save us from hard times. The Bible says that God sent Jesus to save us from sin or the power of sin and its consequences which is death. Jesus came to save us from a sinful state not from hard times. He came to save us from a sinful state not so that we can have an even better life. That person that runs to God because of his state his sinful state that person gets saved! Because he gets saved from the power of sin and its consequences which is death.
