SUPER VHS
CREATIVE MULTI-FX PLUGIN
Party like it’s 1985 — with six unique effects in one strange package.
TAKE A TRIP BACK TO A DECADE OF DREAMS
As kids of the 80s, we have always been drawn to the sound of slightly out-of-tune synths, warm tape saturation, gritty samples and grainy reverbs.
So we set out on a mission to capture the spirit of our favorite decade — and bring it into a new decade.
Meet a complex algorithm with eight simple knobs. We named it ‘super’ for its powers and ‘VHS’ for its sound.
FEATURES
A strange chain of six uniquely crafted ‘one-knob’ effects, designed to be used in combination:
1. STATIC — Static noise synthesizer
2. HEAT — ‘Analog tape’ saturator
3. SHAPE — Sample rate reducer
4. MAGIC — Deep and dark chorus FX
5. DRIFT — Pitch fluctuation LFO
6. WASH — Lofi hall reverb
Internal EQ, bit-crusher and limiter.
THE TIME MACHINE THAT ISN’T A DELAY
We wanted this plugin to be like sending your sounds back in time, then re-discovering them on an old VHS tape 30 years later. All with the click of a single button, right inside your DAW.
The result is six carefully crafted effect algorithms, coming together in a signal chain that gets more purposeful the more you combine its elements. Each effect has just a single control - but multiple parameters under the hood - allowing you find endless combinations to transform your sound just right.
PARAMETERS
STATIC: A synthesized hum, generated by an internal noise oscillator.
HEAT: A warm sounding saturation algorithm, inspired by analog tape machines.
SHAPE: A sample rate reducer (with some hidden extras) inspired by the great samplers of the 1980s.
MAGIC: A lush “Juno style” chorus, but with a slightly deeper tone.
DRIFT: A pitch fluctuation LFO that creates unpredictable instability — ranging from subtle to extreme.
WASH: A grainy hall reverb that sounds anything but natural.
MIX: Controls the over-all wet/dry balance.
OUTPUT: Controls the global output.
HIDDEN PROCESSING: High shelf EQ, bit-crusher, limiter.
WAIT, SO WHAT IS THIS AGAIN — A VHS EMULATOR?
Kind of! We wanted to recreate the “lofi magic” of old VHS tapes. But truth is - that sound is about more than just the video tape quality. It is in the music itself: The lush chorus-sounds, the dirty reverbs, the punchy 8-bit drum samples. Etc. So our mission was to go beyond the idea of emulating a specific piece of gear - and instead try our best to emulate the spirit of an era.
