Thermal by Output | It Lives on My Drum Bus!!!

Below you will find a deep dive video tutorial, where we go a lot of what Thermal has to offer and review its key features!
One of my favorite VST manufacturers, Output, just released a new distortion & saturation VST plugin called Thermal… and it’s HOT FIRE!!

I love testing new plugins. It’s literally my job after all. But, man, oh man, do I LOVE when I get something like Thermal.

Thermal is the newest plugin from Output. Visually and mechanically it’s very similar to their Portal plugin, so if you are familiar with that, you will be right at home here.

Let me start of by telling you, when I first dropped it on my drum bus and ran through a few of the presets, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor before I could continue. Yes, it just sounds that amazing.

Obviously. with such a comprehensive and complex plugin, it does incredible things with all types of audio, but, for me… and drums… instant win!

I mean, let’s be honest. It’s a distortion and saturation plugin, right? It’s got 15+ character rich distortion types, but it also has 9 additional FX, like reverb, delay, flanger and so on. So, it’s really a multi-effect when you look at it.

And, when you do look at it, it looks sooooo good! Just another checked box in plugin design; completely functional and beautiful!

Thermals Performance GUI

There are 3 “stages”, that kind of act like bands, but the bands can overlap making them more like stages in a sequence than a multiband setup. Each band can have one distortion/saturation type and one FX insert on top of individual width and tone controls per stage.

There are 2 complex, yet east to use, modulation modules with drag and drop routing. Then 2 additional FX inserts just before the final stage where Thermal has a set of high and low filters and a compressor!! ARE YOU KIDDING?

From subtitle warming saturation to full-on distortion and even insane audio effects… Thermal has it all. Wow. Just, WOW!
