You can't tell, but I'm shrugging my shoulders right now.

There's... no shortage of things that I could upload today. My backlog is immense. My obligations innumerable. But... instead, I shrug. I shrug, I sigh, and I instead spend my valuable time uploading Boat's digital single, "One Of Us", released in October of 2011. This is a subject I've already written at lengths about -- both in regards to the Sacremento-based punk band itself, as well the aforementioned record -- back when I uploaded the group's "Black And White" LP several months ago. That album contains re-recordings of every song featured here, so at the time, I didn't see much value in uploading this EP seperately.

But, you know. Time has passed. The weather has changed. Things are so different these days, and yet somehow everything feels so... eerily similar. I suppose that's the thing about living with such a terrible sadness. Circumstances are constantly shifting. Matters improve, or.... worsen in indiscernible ways. But no matter how the tide shifts in this sea of depression, everything inevitably circles back to that rotten fucking feeling in the pit of my stomach -- the whirlpool of anxiety-induced paranoia that dominates my daily life, an exhaustive spiral of obsessive, compulsive, destructive thoughts. And... similarly, I inevitably circle back to this record along with it. In my write-up for their "Black And White" LP, I think I briefly mentioned how I must've listened to this "One Of Us" EP hundreds of times. Well, if that's the case, then you can easily tack on another hundred or two listens to that count, because I've yet to grow remotely tired of this album since then. It still remains one of my favorite EPs of all time, without a single doubt in my mind. It'd be a crime for me to not upload this EP standalone and give it the recognition it sorely deserves. I adore these recordings with every bit of love I can muster -- and I think I can muster a lot these days.

This is Sacremento's Boats!. They're a really good surfy... power-pop... punk thing. I don't know. It's kind of hard for me to articulate my impressions on this album when it already feels so closely intertwined with personal sentiments. It's... done a lot for me over the years. A lot. And I couldn't possibly express enough gratitude for that.

Oh, and also: if anyone has a copy of this fabled "Smoking Is Cool" LP -- of which this EP was intended to be a teaser of -- please contact me. I'm dying to hear it.
