A performance and image quality comparison of TSR, FSR and DLSS in Ghostwire: Tokyo.

I'm not certain but I think this is the first retail game to ship with TSR- Unreal Engine 5's new temporal upsampler. TSR, or Temporal Super Resolution was built to replace Unreal engine 4's ageing TAAU to compete against DLSS and FSR in the image reconstruction arms race.

Bear in mind, Ghostwire is still an UE4 game, here TSR has been back-ported from UE5. Also, the game only supports FSR 1 currently, not the much improved FSR 2, so don't expect it to compete well against the temporal focused algorithms of TSR and DLSS.

Key findings:
-TSR is impresssive, in quality mode the IQ looks very similar to both DLSS and native 4k. Throughout the modes it does a great job of upscaling. However it still has some issues...
The big issue for me is that it exaggerates the SSR noise found in the native image which can be distracting. You can see it most clearly around the puddle at the bottom of the screen. It looks a little worse without the youtube compresssion. The only way i've found to mitagate it is to not use SSR or use DLSS. On an unrelated note, the awful film grain can be disabled by adding "[SystemSettings] r.Tonemapper.Quality=3" to the game's Engine.ini.
-I'd probably go with Balanced TSR & DLSS in this game.
-DLSS is a hair sharper than TSR. Personally, I slightly prefer the more natural look of TSR in this regard but in practice the difference is minor.
-FSR is still the most performant option so if you are really desperate it's still a viable choice.
-I find the Ultra performance and Ultra Quality modes here underwhelming and kinda pointless, still the more options the better I guess.
-One interesting thing is how the "stippling" in the SSR reflections change in the DLSS and TSR modes but not in the FSR mode (except in resolution of course). If anybody knows why this is let me know please. There is a slim chance I changed that setting by accident tho :)
