Last september I flew to Thailand thinking I would be there for 3 weeks and leave...I had actually even moved my flight up a week because I wasn’t even sure I would like it and just figuring everything out over there seemed intimidating. That trip turned into 2 months, and then I recently came back for what has now been 5 more (technically Asia not just SE Asia).
✨Here’s where I’ve been so far✨
Thailand (Bangkok, Krabi, Koh Lanta, Railay Beach, Chiang Mai, Pai, Chiang Rai)
Laos (Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Nong Khiaw)
Vietnam (Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Giang)
Philippines (Cebu, Siquijor, Moalboal, Siargao, Manila, Clark, Baguio City, Sagada, Batad, Banaue, Buscalan, Legazpi City, Donsol, Coron, El Nido, Port Barton, Puerto Princessa)
Malaysia (Sabah Borneo - Mt Kinabalu)
Indonesia (Yogyakarta, Cemoro Lawang, Banyuwangi, Ubud, Kintamani, Lombok)
Japan (Hokkaido, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kumano Trail, Nakasendo Way)
I think Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia are great starting points for Asia travel! I leave the Philippines out of this list not because I didn’t like it (it was incredible and I spent 2 months there) but only because the islands are more spread out so travel takes longer. Most of my travel time was about a full day to get from place to place vs a 2-3 hour bus/train ride. If you have a short amount of time and want to see a lot of places fast, then the countries listed are more suited for that!
✨Here are some apps I use while I travel✨
Grab/GoJek for booking bikes/taxis
Traveloka for Java trains/transport
@Hostelworld / @agoda / @Booking.com for accommodation
@GetYourGuide / @Klook Travel for activities
@AllTrails for hiking
@Airalo eSIM store for eSim
@Rosetta Stone for language learning
@Google maps on the daily
Google translate
@Rocket Money for finances
@Polarsteps for tracking/sharing my route
not an app but I use Saftey Wing for travel insurance
I absolutely love all the places in Asia I’ve been to so far and could rave about them forever. Next on the list… Sri Lanka and Nepal!! And back to Lombok hehe 🫶🏼
