The International Patient Summary IG describes a summary format for a key set of information extracted from a patient record. It has attracted a great deal of excitement as the ""next big leap"" in data portability. This tutorial discusses the latest developments in the project, including ongoing changes to the IPS FHIR IG specification, incorporation of the newly released SNOMED IPS Terminology sub-ontology providing terminology support for clinical reasoning and analysis in SNOMED non-member implementations, and multiple ongoing international efforts to further profile and implement the IPS specification.
We also present a newly developed open source reference implementation for generating IPS documents in HAPI FHIR that you can use in your own applications, as well as challenges and design considerations for building IPS implementations.
