At our studio, we pride ourselves on translating intricate, research-driven concepts into engaging and visually compelling animations. Our latest project for Nofima dives into the complex world of mackerel fishing and how various factors influence the quality of this highly sought-after fish.
In this animation, we highlight Nofima’s innovative research, exploring how the diet of mackerel, such as eating certain prey like winged snails, can impact the fish’s meat quality. Nofima has also developed a standardized photo booth system, enabling fishermen to document and share images of the fish’s stomach contents with potential buyers, even before returning to port. This gives buyers the crucial information they need to make informed decisions.
We also explore Nofima's research into how different fishing methods affect the stress levels and overall quality of mackerel, as well as the best ways to freeze and store the fish to maintain its quality for longer periods. This is particularly important for markets like Japan, where Norwegian mackerel is highly prized for sushi, sashimi, and other dishes. However, with evolving food trends and an increase in ready-made meals, the industry faces new challenges in delivering the right products to meet changing consumer preferences.
