Balancing Sustainability and Profitability in Norway’s Fisheries – Animation for Nofima
Our studio excels at transforming complex societal and scientific topics into captivating animations that resonate with diverse audiences. In this project for Nofima, we explore the intricate dynamics of Norway’s fishing industry, a sector that catches over 2.5 million tons of fish annually, contributing billions to the economy.
This animation delves into the history and evolution of Norway's fisheries policies, from the days when fishing was unregulated to the present, where quotas and sustainable practices are essential to protect fish stocks. The shift from unrestricted fishing to the current system of quotas was driven by a need to balance sustainability, profitability, and employment along the coast.
Nofima's research highlights the tensions that arise when these goals conflict with each other. Fewer boats and fishermen have improved profitability, but concerns remain about whether this efficiency has gone too far, limiting access for new fishermen and threatening the future of coastal communities.
By bringing this complex topic to life, we help Nofima communicate important questions to the public: How many boats should we have? Who should hold fishing quotas? Are quotas becoming too expensive, restricting access to only the wealthy? These critical issues affect not only the fishing industry but the entire coastal way of life.
Nofima trusts us to convey their vital research through clear and engaging animations, allowing them to foster meaningful discussions about the future of Norway’s fisheries. As their long-term partner, we are committed to helping Nofima make an impact with every animation we create.
