This is my instructional keyboard cover of Foreigner's "Urgent", which I am publishing under the "fair use" doctrine. This cover is meant to show how the song might be played in a live setting. It features a simple MIDI sequence containing drums, slap bass, and "guitar", and functions as a framework which I use to play along with.
All sounds, except tenor sax, are being produced by the Roland Fantom X7 (silver keyboard on the bottom). The tenor sax part is played on the StudioLogic Numa Compact 2X (black keyboard on the top), but the sound is actually being produced by Audiomodeling's SWAM Tenor Sax app, which is contained within their Camelot live performance app on an Apple iPad. That is, the Numa Compact 2X is not producing any sound, but is "controlling" the iPad app (which produces the sound).
"Urgent" is my absolute **favorite** Foreigner song and I've always wanted to play it. I had actually considered buying a cheap tenor sax so that I could learn to play it, just for this one song. Over the past several years, instrument "modeling" software has grown in popularity and, in my opinion, Audiomodeling produces the absolute **best** and **most realistic** models available (FULL DISCLOSURE: I have absolutely no financial stake in Audiomodeling and I have no relationship with that company, except being a user of their products).
Being a former trombone player, I am familiar with the mechanics of wind instruments (breathing, phrasing, vibrato, etc.). This helpful in creating a realistic performance.
The weird background effect, which occurs during the chorus, I programmed myself (it took many hours). I sampled the effect within the Fantom and, within this performance, I am triggering it with my left foot on a Keith McMillen 12-Step MIDI controller. You will notice that sometime the effect does not trigger. This is because the bass player in my band normally triggers the effect (and I am not used to triggering it, myself).
The weird sound effect just before the sax solo I also programmed myself. I sampled it and I trigger it using a Keith McMillen 12-Step MIDI controller, as well. Both of these sounds took many hours to figure out and create (I had to slow down the original track to hear the intrinsic elements of these sounds).
I've only been playing this song for maybe a month or so. I'm hoping to play it with my band in 2022. :-)
Thanks to all my subscribers for your patience...I haven't uploaded anything new in probably two years. I've got a few more songs I'm hoping to upload in the next day or so.
