This is my instructional keyboard cover of Toto's "Hold the Line". I am publishing this under the "fair use" doctrine, since it is being posted for educational purposes.
In this video, I have split my keyboard into two zones. The upper zone is a "honky tonk" piano sound. The lower zone triggers samples that I created of me playing overdriven power chords on my Fender Strat. I have arranged the samples so that they are close to one another and they are mapped in a somewhat logical manner, based on pitch. You will notice that some of the samples have me playing with a downward slide, as on the original recording. Some of the samples are held out power chords.
There are two reasons why I'm playing guitar samples on my keyboard. First, having two guitars really "fattens" up the song, when playing it live. Second, there is a guitar solo, during which the piano phrase keeps playing, along with a rhythm guitar part. Since my band has only four guys (and we don't have a full-time rhythm guitar player), I need to play the rhythm guitar part on my keyboard, or the guitar solo section will sound very empty.
Sorry about the sloppy playing, but you can get an idea of how the song can be performed, live. :-)
