How to set the default transition duration in Premiere Pro. In order to set the default duration just go to 'Edit - Preferences - Timeline'. Here under 'Video Transition Default Duration' you can set the default length that is set when transitions are being applied to an edit.

Keep in mind that per default the unit is set to 'frames' and it depends on what timebase is set for your sequence!

In the example the timbase is 100! So the default length of 30 frames is pretty short. To make you have a specific length (in terms of 'time') just set the unit to 'seconds'. For some reason it defaults to 'frames'. But the default for audio transitions is set to 'seconds'.

This is a very common question asked from beginners and the fact that the unit is set to frames by default, rather than seconds is kind of confusing.
