WordPress Tutorial - How to Install and Activate Your Theme

This tutorial playlist will teach you the basics of WordPress from setting up a domain and hosting to installing your very first theme.

In this video tutorial, you will learn how to install and activate a new theme, this will provide you with more and greater options for WordPress development thus allowing you to expand your design skills and allow more freedom and flexibility when working with the structure and layout of the site.

Setting up or changing your current theme and this will include installing a new one, setting up the previous, and even reaching the point of customizing that theme which you have already installed up and chosen with the different settings that you have out there ( • WordPress Tutorial; How to Customize ... ).

The first step to get into this is by logging into WordPress site and getting to the dashboard page. On the dashboard page, you will go to 'Appearance' which is found on the left side of the window and from appearance you will select 'Themes' which from where you are going to start your journey.

Once you get into the themes page, you will find those current themes which are installed within your WordPress installation. In addition to using those free themes which come as default, you could also add many more but which you have to pay for in order to be able to use. The most important thing to mention here is the 'custom theme' which you could build all by yourself and which you will find coming among those themes that are displayed for you.

When you press the 'Add a Theme' button, you will find yourself being taken to a page with lots of different themes out there which you could choose from and you could even preview every single one before installing it and deciding whether you want to build your website with it or else not. If you settle on a specific theme and decide to install it, you will need to wait a couple of seconds in order for it to get downloaded and then activate it, and at this point when you go back to the page of the offered themes to you, you will find the one you have installed and activated displayed there as well.

When you choose a specific theme and install it, you will find that you will need to install specific widgets offered to you and which if you dismissed, you might not receive all the features of the theme that you have installed. In addition to those plugins which are required, you will also receive a "Welcome Page and Documentation" link which will help you to know more about the features of the theme and at the same time how to edit or customize it or in other words what are the features that could be changed and played with.

Once you install and activate the theme, you will now need to go through the steps of customization and how to customize your theme. Going through the customization of the theme happens through choosing 'customize' from the 'appearance' tab, and there you will find everything that you might need to change, such as the general appearance of the website in regards of the logo, name, colors, widgets, background image, menus, etc. the only thing that was different in this case is the 'Theme Options' tab which we have here. In this 'theme options' tab which will appear, you could find a whole new list of things which you could change and customize about your theme.

There are loads of options in customizing the theme of your WordPress site and always make sure that these options are different, you should never expect them to be all the same and that's exactly why you should check them all in order to decide whether you want any of them or else not.
