The Toyota Prius continues to set new standards in fuel efficiency, with its latest milestone being recognized as a world record. Hypermiler Wayne Gerdes recently secured a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for achieving the lowest fuel consumption while driving across the United States, from Los Angeles City Hall to New York City Hall. Gerdes completed the 3,211.7-mile journey in a Toyota Prius LE with an impressive fuel economy of 93.158 miles per gallon, smashing the previous record, which was in the mid-70s.

Since its introduction in 2000, the Prius has become a symbol of hybrid technology, combining an electric motor with a highly efficient engine. Toyota has expanded this innovation into nearly every segment of their lineup, showcasing their commitment to reducing carbon emissions while offering diverse powertrain options to meet different needs.

Gerdes navigated through diverse terrains and weather conditions, from the scorching Mojave Desert to mountain passes at 7,000 feet, proving the Prius can maintain efficiency in even the toughest environments.

For drivers looking to improve their fuel economy, Gerdes recommends gentle acceleration, maintaining steady pressure on the pedal, and easing off the gas early before stops to allow the vehicle to coast to a halt.
