The origins of the the Black Death, which killed millions of people in the 14th century, has been one of the most hotly debated topics in medieval history. However, a new shocking discovery made by researchers in June 2022 may have finally discovered its true origins for the very first time. In this video, I explain the discovery which was recently published in the Journal of Nature.

You can read the full article and findings here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s4158...

However, there has also been some criticism of the findings - most notably by historian Dr. Monica Green. Check out her recent twitter thread where she critiques this study: https://twitter.com/monicaMedHist/sta...

My name is Dr. Christian Knudsen and I am a medieval historian and Professor of Cultural History in Sheridan’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. My channel posts videos on history and lectures from the courses I teach.
