When I set out to create this brief animation, my goal was to learn how to use a fascinating technique called camera projection to dolly a camera down through layers of earth. To make the process even more interesting, I challenged myself to come up with a fun concept. I employed my usual process of surfing through images and browsing the PixelSquid site to generate ideas. When I stumbled across PixelSquid objects from the Star Wars movies, an amusing idea formed in my head. What if I were to create a scene with a stormtrooper patrolling the streets in a VW bus (who comes up with this sort of nonsense?), oblivious to the fact that Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon is literally hidden right beneath his nose? The concept seemed just silly enough to excite me. I embellished the story a bit by adding an inconspicuous sign pointing straight toward the stormtrooper’s hidden prize.
