In this video, Whitney reviews what Google's new MCM program is and how it differs from their current program, SPM. She also goes over what these changes mean for Ezoic publishers, as Ezoic is a Google Certified Publishing Partner.
Google MCM is Multiple Customer Management. It is replacing the Scaled Partner Management (SPM) module, which will be phased out by the end of September. As a Google Publishing Partner, Ezoic is part of the MCM beta program, so we will assist with the shift.
SPM was a program that was available for smaller publishers to access Google AdExchange. It allowed smaller publishers to partner with larger publishers to use their AdX account.
This new module, MCM, is for creating more sensible relationships between publishers and publishing partners and adapting to the current market’s needs. The module will still operate like SPM, but the distinction is that it gives advertisers the power to see exactly where and how their inventory is being sold.
MCM is replacing SPM for multiple reasons. It was harder to add new features, there was less functionality for managing publisher permissions, there was less transparency for publishers, and less access to ad management features.
This is relevant to Ezoic customers because Google SPM lets these smaller publishers, sometimes called child publishers, to partner with larger publishing partners, like Ezoic.
There will be no changes to Ezoic customer’s sites. With Ezoic, you will now have your own Ad Manager account while we are the managed partners and oversee the inventory. Ezoic will notify you when this needs to be done, but you can follow the link below to go ahead and start the process.
For Ezoic customers, the MCM component can be found at the bottom of the Monetization tab. If you have a Google Ad Manager account, in the Google Ad Manager Multiple Customer Management modal, select ‘yes’ to say that you have a Google Ad Manager account and then enter the corresponding email address and network code.
If you don’t have a Google Ad Manager account but do have a Google AdSense account, click on the ‘no’ button and enter in the corresponding Google AdSense email address.
If you don’t have either, click ‘no’ and enter any email address. You will receive an email from Google Ad Manager that will give you prompts to complete. Once you are finished, you will see a holding page and then you will receive a confirmation email which lets you know that it will take approximately 24 hours for Google to verify your website. Once your Google Ad Manager account is approved, Ezoic will submit your sites individually for approval.
In order to allow ads on your website from Ezoic, you need to set up an MCM account. This is going to be the same process industry-wide.
