How To Break Text in Photoshop
There are 2 ways to do this ...you could use a non-destructive way to create this if you want to keep the text editable.
For that just create your text, create a mask with the polygonal lasso tool, and hit the mask icon.
Now copy the layer and just invert the layer mask with CTRL/CMD + I. Now move the upper layer around a little bit so the crack actually is visible.
Another slightly different technique is actually rasterizing the text layer. Then creating the mask. From here just hit the shortcut CTRL/CMD + ALT/OPTION + J. That will create a layer via cut (also available under layer - new - layer via cut). Now move the layer around a bit and you got the same effect.
The first technique is a good idea when you want to keep the text editable.
But when you can actually commit to the text and have no need to change it later, the latter technique is much faster and you don't have to mess around with masks.
