We present Base Ball Bear's bassist Shiori Sekine's performing an EQD session with drummer Koji Ota, featuring the Chapman Stick. This session will unleash Shiori’s love of this fascinating and textured instrument!
The Chapman Stick is generally played with a lot of tapping and glissando, which is not the “normal” way to play a stringed instrument, and it seems to be hard to bring a lot of character out of it. But with The Depths and Astral Destiny, her Chapman Stick swells and stretches the dynamics off of the vibe Koji Ota’s drumming is creating. And Westwood and Special Cranker saturate the bass and melody strings that add a twist to her tapping. This is a good way to make those notes pop out of the mix.
Shiori also plays “regular” bass and many aren’t aware that she rocks the Chapman Stick, but this session shows just how talented of a multinstrumentalist she is! To check out more demos from Shiori Sekine, head over to the EQD Japan YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/@EarthQuakerD...
