Webinar from AMG Global Compound Design series (March 2018) presented by Mike Petrassi, CALIBR, who described the process used to identify clinical candidates for treating elephantiasis and river blindness. The target is the intracellular bacterium Wolbachia. Hit compounds from a phenotypic HTS were triaged in terms of both their biological and chemical properties before further evaluation and optimisation. Mike described the process that led the team to identify two lead compounds. The project was a global collaboration with scientists from USA, China and Germany funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
