How Many Reverb Plugins Do You Actually Need?

In this recent analysis of reverb FX plugin’s I noticed I have 16 reverbs but tend to use only 5 or 6. Furthermore, I’m tossed between classic reverbs and emulations of reverb hardware of yesterday, and modern reverbs that offer creative sound design. So, my strategy is to explain the “starting points” for adding reverb - often in Logic - to the more complex reverbs available on the market. I demo the sounds and some presets of my favourites as well as explain the features and differences.

After my analysis and testing of more than 16 reverbs, the Strymon, Big Sky and Izotope, Neoverb stood out as the most modern new reverbs setting the trend for the future. Of course, the tried-and-true reverts from Logic, UAD and Valhalla will continue to be popular for some time, as habits don’t change overnight.
