There Are No Rules in Art
🖌️Pablo Picasso once said: “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”
I don't believe there are "rules" in art. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to do things.
But, to be clear, I DO believe in learning art fundamentals and best practices that will allow our medium(s) to shine at their fullest, so that we can then create better quality original art.
🚩 There are things we can learn and skills we can develop to improve the QUALITY of our work, but it is JUST AS IMPORTANT to bring ourselves into our art.
This way, we can make better choices and we break the "rules" with greater success.👩🎨
As a lifelong learner, I'm constantly learning from other artists I admire. I'll never stop learning from others because improving my art is something that I'll be doing for as long as I live.👵🖌️
I take bits and bobs from different people, practice with their guidance, and then think of how to use and COMBINE those new skills in my own work, in my own way.
👉I believe it's essential to keep an open, receptive mind because there are things to learn from everyone. Everyone has their own gifts and we can always benefit from seeing things from a different lens.
This said, it's essential to use our critical thinking skills, go beyond what we're seeing, and ask questions.
Don't just accept things as a fact and always think for yourself.
🚩 Learn from different sources, expand your horizons, equip yourself with more tools, and ultimately, make your own decisions so you can create the art you want to create.
