With everything that's going on in the art world, I felt compelled to share this message with fellow artists out there who are working hard on starting/building an income around their skills.
Yes, it's incredibly challenging, for a variety of reasons.
Yes, things will take way longer than you would like them to take.
And, yes, it is important that you make smart financial decisions as you're building things up (such as staying in your "regular" job longer until you start making a sustainable income through your art or saving up enough to cover basic expenses for a year before leaving).
But, if this is something your heart is telling you to do, do it, I PROMISE it's worth it.
I see SO many artists out there losing hope and giving up because of AI, the economy, and all kinds of things. And, hey, I totally get it.
However, artists have survived insane technological advances and horrible economic situations, over and over, throughout history.
You were created with a specific mishmash of interests and capabilities that you were made to discover and develop. The saddest thing I can think of is arriving at that last day of life full of regrets because I didn't do anything to grow my skills in the areas my heart was always telling me to develop.
Life is too short and too precious.
Don't set aside those gifts you were given. Treasure them. Develop them. You'll become more of yourself and a light for those around you.
And remember that great things take time.
