The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) start out very small, only about 2.5 millimeters when they’re born, but they grow really fast—some can gain more than 300 kilograms in just 15 months. Baby sunfish face many dangers on their own because their parents don’t take care of them, and only a few make it to adulthood. Even when they have grown up, they might accidentally eat plastic bags, thinking they’re jellyfish, which can cause them to starve and die.
