We Divorced & Now I Want To Spend More Time With My Child -- FL Lawyer Steve Kramer explains options

Florida family law attorney Steve Kramer discusses how one can increase time spent with his child when the child has aged years after a divorce.
There are a couple of elements impacting this situation. First, the law changed in 2008 so that 50-50 time-sharing is the presumption, where it was not before. Second, if your child was much younger at the time of the initial decision at the time of the divorce, the child's age was likely taken into consideration when developing that time-sharing schedule. Perhaps the child was a baby or was breastfeeding, which both would have strongly affected the decision.
Now that your child is older, this can be brought to the court as a substantial change in circumstances, and you will file what is called a modification. You will seek to modify visitation and take advantage of the new laws that encourage both mothers and fathers to spend time with the child. You may also need to bring in experts such as a psychologist or psychiatrist to explain how this is in the best interest of the child.
You will seek a new time-sharing schedule and develop what is called a parenting plan. The parenting plan may be simple if both spouses get along, or it may get very specific if you are at odds on several matters. The key is to create a parenting plan that works for both spouses and the child. Watch the video to learn more.
