Cookiecutter sharks (Isistius brasiliensis) typically live at depths below 1000 meters during the day. At night, they conduct diel vertical migration to the upper water column to feed. There are few recorded attacks on humans by these sharks. Additionally, due to dehydration and preservation processes, which cause shape distortion and color changes, some cookiecutter shark specimens look significantly different from their live form.
