Well, that really depends on how it’s done, but if done well, then absolutely YES! I mean, the video says it all, but I’m going to leave it to CT Member, Ellie, to explain in her own words:
“I'm too in awe of this not to share 😊
I've been slowly teaching Ragnar how to be a ridden horse (as most of you will know!) and for quite a while, he didn't seem that keen on being ridden, he much preferred groundwork.
I got some help and pointers to show where I should be much clearer in my communication in the Autumn and have been concentrating hard on me being better. Quite a few old habits riding Bjork and Hugi that I had to shift 😆
A little while later (and not much actual riding as the weather has been so awful), we are starting to understand each other much better 😀
But the real thrill is that Ragnar is now going over to the mounting block by himself to ask to be ridden 🥳
.
The last couple of sessions, he has taken me there right at the beginning, when I was intending to walk him in hand a couple of times around the school.
Yesterday, I thought we were done for the day and was sitting with him and then he took himself off back to the mounting block to do some more - and this time he went to scary-end ridden when we had been struggling with that for the whole session. He obviously felt ready to tackle it.
I also do the mounting block the other way around - I get off him if he takes me to it when we're riding, we do some ground work then I hop back on again.
The power of a two-way conversation has brought so much joy to our time together.
I didn't know a relationship with your horse could be like this 🥰”
