Sloths are physically unable to fart.

The sloth sustains itself on an average daily intake of around 100 calories. Basically nothing. Because of this, our smiling friends have adopted a rather genius method of conserving energy utilizing their multi-chambered stomach.

By not farting, the sloth absorbs its digestive gas into its bloodstream, giving the animal a sort of buoyancy. This surprising feature lets sloths who have fallen into moving bodies of water to float their way back to dry land, saving them from having to burn precious energy swimming.

Of course, the sloth will eventually need to expel the digestive gases from its little bodies or bloating will occur. And since the sloth is the only mammal that can’t fart from it’s butt, it farts from it’s mouth instead. Or in other words, it burps.
