Unreal Engine 5 is great even for being in early access. It does come with some caviats though, such as bugs and strange artifacts. In this quick video I will show you two fixes that resolved my issues when using Lumen and Raytracing in UE5. I couldn't find these solutions anywhere so I hope they help you. When using Nanite meshes, you sometimes get strange and weird shadow artifacts on the mesh. This is easily removed by changing the normal bias which you can do by typing the following in the console command:
r.RayTracing.NormalBias 5
The second issue is hard and jagged shadows, specifically in terrain and landscapes, but does show up on meshes and geometry as well. For this I've found that softening the ray traced shadows in the details panel under the directional light and increasing the sample per pixel rate a bit makes this go away.
As these aren't the only shadow issues in Unreal Engine 5 I hope they work for you, but if they don't please let me know about your issue down in the comments and I'll see if I can find a solution for you.
Hope you enjoy! 😊
