A wise man known as uxwbill once said this about Windows Me: “Windows Millennium? Oh no! Get it away, eek!”
While I usually wouldn’t disagree with this sentiment in many cases, for a computer designed around Windows Me, it can breathe surprising life into it. Especially when the prior owner played internet Minesweeper with their PC circa 2005 and left it to rot. This poor 633MHz Celeron-based eMachines desktop had a Windows 2000 installation that needed to go. As I didn’t really need another machine with Windows 2000 on it, I opted instead to go the route less traveled and I installed Windows Me on it instead.
It can’t really do too much in 2023, but it’s at least quick now. It can also get onto the internet! More interestingly for me, it can at least play something, namely Nicktoons Racing… at least at 320x240. 640x480 is a bridge too far. In any case, this computer is finally usable and I can rest easy now.
