If you're here, you probably know what Sega Rally 2006 is, but if you're not, this game was the third game in the Sega Rally series - and the first one since Sega Rally 2 came out in 1998. Initially intended to release as the 10th anniversary special in 2005, this game ultimately came out in early 2006 to... not much fanfare, actually. Having only stood in Japan and South Korea, this game is pretty sought-after by international collectors, with versions of the game that also come with the PS2 port of Sega Rally Championship fetching a considerable premium. The rest of the world wouldn't see another Sega Rally release until Revo would release in late 2007.

But this isn't about the game specifically, but rather about Sega Rally 2006's Japanese demo. Built about 2 weeks before the final Japanese version's build date (which dates itself to around October 6th, 2005), not too much about this demo really stands out as being different from the final game. Much like the final game, this demo defaults to starting up in the 16:9 mode... which is a bit annoying when you intend to capture this game in its 4:3 mode. Outside of that, you're mainly just restricted to the Arcade mode, where it more or less functions like the final game, except you get to sit through a 4 minute promo video for the final game and the original arcade game conversion when you finish.

Not much else to note about this demo besides that. The disc does come in kind of an unusual paper sleeve thing you pull out of the paper cover for the demo itself, which is really interesting. That and the disc more or less has the same final artwork as, well, the final game.

On a random aside, this game is really blurry, even given that this is one of those games that render in an interlaced mode. Not only does it render out at 512x448, but the output itself is really blurry, probably in an effort to avoid interlace flicker. This game could desperately use a 480p mode.
