US National Championship | Gravity MTB | Ride Rock Creek

🇺🇸 Nory competed in the US National Championship for "Gravity MTB” (downhill mountain biking) at Ride Rock Creek and just squeezed onto the podium! This was her second year racing US Nationals at Ride Rock Creek, but her first time competing on this track - more on that later. It was a great event, the future of US downhill is bright!

🙋🏼‍♀️ Nory is now 15 and racing in the DH F Junior 15-16 Cat 1 group. Last year, they wouldn’t allow girls under 15 on the “pro” track, but boys under 15 WERE allowed. She had to compete on the amateur track, which doesn’t test rider skill via technical sections. We and others complained, and I’m happy to say that this year USA Cycling did allow all ages on the pro track and it went great!

The course was awesome, a continuous stream of features that challenged all riders. Nory went around one of the massive step-down road gaps - to be honest, this was the primary safety concern we had with the track. The step-down measured about 15 feet tall and 35 feet out, many bad crashes happened here. Elsewhere on the track were many drops to berm, pulls over rocks, a smaller step-down, and a massive jump into the finish - fun!

The competition as awesome, this field was STACKED with some amazing riders! Nory has been racing Aletha Ostgaard since age 8, and we were happy to see Ally take the win and National Champion title! The Logar sisters, Zanna and Raina, placed second and third. Fourth was Mary McLaron. Nory placed 5th with a time of 2:23, just 0.25s ahead of her friend Ainsley. Opal Barber put in a great time too after winning the enduro competition just days earlier. Congratulations to all the competitors, there were 14 young women in this category!
